This rhubarb brandy jam is super delicious and the brandy really adds a little punch to it. The rhubarb provides a sharp, tangy note that’s mellowed by the sugar, resulting in a pleasantly sweet and tangy combination. The lemon zest and juice add a citrusy zing, while the brandy infuses a subtle warmth and depth of flavour, creating a harmonious blend of tastes that dance on your palate.

The most straightforward way to enjoy this jam is by spreading it generously on a slice of freshly toasted bread. The sweet and tart flavours makes it a delightful alternative to traditional fruit preserves. So, serve this jam alongside freshly baked French or brioche bread for a delicious breakfast.

You can also try pairing this jam with homemade Stollen, a traditional German holiday bread made with dried fruits and nuts. Stollen tastes amazing with this homemade quick jam and a little spread of butter.

Homemade jam also makes thoughtful holiday gifts too – and they are super easy to whip up if you forgot about a gift and need one with just 2 hours notice (the jam has to cool, of course). Package the jam in a clean, decorative jar with a personalized label for a memorable present for a friend or family member. It also makes a great hostess gift. Keep in mind this jam does require refrigeration, since it is a quick jam and not pressure-canned. Basically, don’t leave it sitting out at room temperature or under the Christmas tree overnight.

Beyond breakfast, this rhubarb brandy jam could even be used as a cocktail ingredient. Add a spoonful to a brandy-based holiday cocktail for a refreshing twist. You could even try adding some to this cranberry candy drink, inspired by the treat from Stardew Valley!

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups fresh or frozen rhubarb, chopped
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 tsp lemon zest
  • ¼ cup lemon juice
  • 2-3 tbsp brandy
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Tools

  • saucepan
  • cooking spoon
  • measuring cup
  • measuring spoons
  • zester
  • knife
  • cutting board
  • airtight container, for storage in the fridge or freezer

Instructions

  1. Wash or defrost the rhubarb and chop it into pieces.
  2. Zest and juice the lemon.
  3. In a saucepan, combine the rhubarb, sugar, lemon zest, lemon juice, and water to a saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat.
  4. Reduce the heat to medium and allow the mixture simmer for about 15 minutes, or until the rhubarb fully liquefies and the mixture thickens considerably.
  5. Remove the jam from the heat once fully cooked.  The jam is done when you can run a spoon through it, and the spoon leaves a distinct trail across the bottom of the pan that doesn’t quickly fill back in.
  6. Stir in the brandy and vanilla until well combined.
  7. Keep this quick jam in the fridge for up to 7 days, or in the freezer for up to 2 months.

Artisan Jelly Preserves in Stardew Valley

Jelly can be made in Stardew Valley by popping any fruit into a preserves jar.

An artisan preserves jar produces a jar of jelly in about 2-3 days, then displays a small jar icon when your jelly is ready to retrieve.

You must possess farming level 4, plus 50 wood, 40 stone and 8 coal in order to craft a preserves jar.

These jars can be placed anywhere on your farm, in one of your farm buildings, or even outside of your farm somewhere in the valley.

Beyond jelly, preserve jars can also be used to make pickles, caviar and aged roe.

One surprising fact is that jars of jelly are actually not consumable in Stardew Valley, you must combine them in a recipe to make them edible, or sell them. You can also gift them, of course.

Jelly can be made in Stardew Valley by placing any fruit in a preserves jar for 2-3 days.

Beware Sebastian lovers, he absolutely despises jelly! Everyone else likes it just fine – even Krobus, Leo and Willy. I know, the shock! They actually tolerate something…

Beyond that, jelly is one of the items you can submit to complete the artisan pantry bundle for the Junimos at the old Community Center. You can also combine jelly with some cloth on Emily’s magic sewing machine to make a fancy pink shirt.
