Pineapple Mint Green Smoothie

A refreshing smoothie recipe made with pineapple, kale, fresh herbs and lime, inspired by the energizing elixir from Zelda Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild. The perfect summer green drink for replenishing your stamina!

Ah, can you ever have enough stamina? This is the question I asked myself so much while playing Breath of the Wild. In Tears of the Kingdom the tables have turned, as while I now rarely have many issues with stamina, I am always on the lookout for more zonaite. Especially if you’re flying around on a fan bike a lot.

I’m so happy with the vast expansion of Hyrule that has been added in Tears of the Kingdom, its phenomenal. But, like a kid in a candy store, can you ever have enough? Having explored the depths quite thoroughly now, I do kind of wish there were more abandoned mines. I really like these, and of course you can revisit them, but they just fascinate me.

But! For those cases when you do need stamina – I don’t know, maybe you’re wooing a very large horse very early in the game- the easiest energizing elixir recipe I’ve found is to cook three restless crickets with two bokoblin fangs. I recommend the restless crickets, just because they are so much easier to come by than the energetic rhino beetles, generally speaking.

Energizing Elixir in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild: restless crickets or energetic rhino beetle + monster parts

So, where can you find restless crickets? Just about anywhere with grassy fields, although I like to check out Hyrule Field and the Hateno Region for crickets, since you’re usually also collecting something else at the same time.

If you really do want energetic rhino beetles, you’ve got some work cut out for yourself. Let’s face it – the elixir they make is superior to restless crickets. First off, you might want to purchase the stealth set from Kakariko Village, since these beetles fly away the second they notice you. Kakariko is also a common place to come across these beetles though, so it makes sense to also get the stealth set there to up your chances of getting a beetle.

Energetic rhino beetles can also be found in the Akkala highlands (you just have to get there first), as well as most of West Necluda, which includes Kakariko Village. These beetles can mostly be found only at night, which is just another reason to collect them while wearing the stealth set, since then you can make good use of its night time bonus.

If you’re really lucky, those evil trees in Tears of the Kingdom can also drop an energetic rhino beetle. Did you know these trees are called Evermeans? It took me a while to figure that out!

Meal recipes to use in place of elixirs

Fresh out of crickets? You can also cook meals that offer shock resistance, using ingredients such as:

  • courser bee honey (unless you’re saving your honeycomb to fuse for a magical bee-shooting sceptre – seriously try it!)
  • stamella shroom
  • staminoka bass
  • bright-eyed crab

Here are some of my favourite shock resistant meal recipes:

  • Energizing Honeyed Apple: 3 courser bee honey + 2 apples
  • Energizing Meat and Mushroom Skewer: 4 stamella shrooms + meat
  • Energizing Fragrant Mushroom Sauté: 4 stamella shrooms + Goron spice
  • Energizing Mushroom Rice Balls: 4 stamella shrooms + Hylian rice

Courser bee honey works super well for stamina-enhancing foods, and it pairs well with almost any other in-game ingredients, but by far, the stamella shrooms and bright-eyed crabs are the easiest ingredients to collect. Stamella shrooms grow almost everywhere you can find grass – just not the desert, volcanic areas or snowy regions. Bright-eyed crabs are very common by the sea, especially around Lurelin Village.

So, happy energizing elixir concocting!

Instructions

1. Prepare the fruits and leafy greens.

  • Zest the lime, then cut it in half and juice the insides.
  • Peel the banana, pineapple and avocado, then cut into rough chunks.
  • Wash the kale, mint and parsley. Tear the kale into rough pieces.

Note: This recipe works great with frozen pineapple, plus if you buy them pre-frozen they are already cut into chunks and peeled for you! Fresh, canned or frozen fruit, it’s just up to your personal preference here.

2. Blend the smoothie.

  • Add all the ingredients to a blender and pulse blend for 10-20 seconds at a time until smooth.
  • Stir with a long spoon in between pulses, if necessary. Don’t put your hands anywhere near the inside of the charged blender for safety reasons.
  • Once fully blended, pour the smoothie into serving glasses and enjoy!

Replenish Energy With A Green Smoothie!

This drink is delicious, with a smooth creamy texture, plus it makes me feel like I’m ingesting something really healthy, at least my stomach is always very accepting of this one smoothie in particular.

You can also easily customize this recipe to have more protein by replacing the coconut milk with yogurt or soy milk. You could also add protein powder to this recipe, although I’d recommend adding some extra liquid if you do this (1/4 cup – 1/2 cup).

Also if you’re allergic to, say, pineapple, just replace it with a different fruit or veggie of your choosing. Frozen mango or peaches would also be very tasty.

Did you try this pineapple mint smoothie? Let me know!
